Nice to meet you.
I’m Micaela and Blue Heron Diplomacy is my commitment to my community and the world at large. More on that below.
Most of my time is spent raising three sons with my husband and working full-time as a philanthropy leader and strategist at one of our country’s largest NGOs.
Always a combination of wanderer and change maker, I committed to a career in public service before I ever stepped foot on a college campus. I completed a degree in Political Communication at LSU’s Manship School. In 2009, I was named a Truman Scholar and later earned an MSW from Tulane University.
I believe every single person has the capacity and potential to make this world a better, more peaceful place. That’s why I’ve dedicated my life to helping people make their impact with confidence.
I also believe that sometimes the best place to start is right where you are… small movements, connected communities, healthy relationships change the world for good.
My happy places:
porches with sweet tea and good friends.
any shoreline with pink clouds and crashing waves.
rooms filled with people working to make the world better.
About Blue Heron
In 2022 we were living in one of the US’ perennial “best places to raise a family.” We were building a life there with every convenience and delight you could imagine. But we couldn’t stop thinking about “home.” It wasn’t a hometown thing. After all, one of us isn’t even from there. It was more of an inexplicable pull back to something we knew, something we wanted to invest our lives into. Something we wanted in our kids’ story.
The first year was tough. I couldn’t find my footing or see the future as clearly as I once did. My usual “vision” was clouded and unsure. Then, one evening I poured out my ideas about everything I wanted to give back to this place that meant so much to me - everything I wanted to change- and that’s when I saw it…
A majestic blue heron swooped down with its full wingspan and landed right there in our yard. That beautiful bird brought my heart all the way home and restored my vision.
I would help our state become everything it could be. I was going to help connect our community and unleash it’s collective potential.
